  • Course Options

NCS summer term courses may be taken for the following purposes:
    • Graduation Requirement: A course the student has not yet attempted or completed that is taken to fulfill a NCS Graduation Requirement.  These courses include Core Courses (Bible, English, Math, Science, Social Studies) or Electives for specific elective credit (Technology, PE/Band, Fine Arts, World Language, General Electives). Students may take no more than 1 credit ahead of the regularly scheduled grade level to allow for additional electives or study hall periods during the school year. English, Social Studies, and Bible courses may not be “moved up” to the next grade level during the school year if the student takes the required grade level course in the summer.
    • Credit Recovery: Retaking a course to recover credit for a previously failed course. These courses may be taken during either Term as needed.

    • Grade Replacement: Retaking a course to replace a previous grade. Please be aware that not all universities accept replacement grades towards institutional scholarships or GPAs. These courses may be taken during either Term as needed.
    • Enrichment: An enrichment course is a learning opportunity that goes beyond the standard requirements, in order to broaden knowledge, explore interests, and develop skills in a specific area, often outside of traditional academic subjects.
  • Duration

In the Summer Term, NCS Online courses (18 weeks) are condensed to one month (4 weeks).

  • Purpose

We are excited to announce a significant expansion of our summer school program, now available through NCS Online! This development offers greater flexibility for students, alleviating common scheduling conflicts that arise during the school year. By embracing this new online format, students will have the opportunity to balance their academic commitments with a more manageable and personalized learning experience.

In addition to our diverse and comprehensive course catalog for high school students (HS Course Description Guide), we are proud to offer a full selection of electives for middle school students (MS Course Description Guide). These electives will be available for summer enrollment, allowing younger students to explore new interests and further enrich their educational experience. This initiative not only provides greater academic flexibility but also offers opportunities for students to advance or deepen their knowledge in specific areas.

This new format reinforces our commitment to nurturing both the academic and spiritual growth of our students. By creating an environment that is adaptable to each student's needs, we can better support their personal and intellectual development. As we continue to strive to guide our students in their pursuit of excellence, we remain steadfast in our mission to foster their growth in both faith and knowledge.
  • Registration Process

NCS Students should check their report card or transcript to determine course selection eligibility as outlined in the respective course guides. Questions may be directed to Maggie Kipp, mkipp@ncsaz.org or Julie Dennis, jdennis@ncsaz.org in the Guidance Office. Upon confirmation of eligibility, NCS students can register and pay for courses via the appropriate registration link below.

Non-NCS Students should contact the Admissions Office, admission@ncsaz.org for information on how to enroll, register and pay for Summer Term courses.
  • Special Considerations

Summer term Honors Courses are not eligible for Dual Enrollment credit. If a student wishes to take a course for dual enrollment college credit, they should take that course during the regular school year. Please consult the HS Course Description Guide to determine whether a specific Honors Course is eligible for Dual Enrollment credit. The Guidance Office will review all registrations and ineligible students will be moved to a regular class.

Ground students receiving a D or F in the summer enrichment course must retake the course on campus the following school year.
  • Technology Requirements

Students taking online courses during the summer term are responsible to provide their own computer or device that meets the Online Minimum Technology Requirements. Chromebooks and iPads will work for NCS Online courses with the exception of Business Applications for high school students. Students taking Business Applications need a PC, Laptop, or Desktop computer that will run the full Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Time Expectations

Our program was developed with excellence in mind and families can be confident that their child is learning all that they need to know to prepare their child for future academic endeavors.  In order to fit an entire semester of coursework into a four week session, you can expect a time commitment of approximately 20-25 hours each week per course.  Please consider this if you are entertaining the possibility of signing up for multiple courses. If you have any questions about specific courses, please reach out to Jessica Gake, jgake@ncsaz.org
